2011 is Going to the Dogs
The year started out well, I grabbed a kid and herded the dogs into the van for their yearly checkup.Well it all goes downhill from there.
I just returned from the vets. Again. Being an animal lover I have many pets in my household. Four dogs, fish, a bird and a bunny.
The year started out well, I grabbed a kid and herded the dogs into the van for their yearly checkup. Everyone does well in the car except for Hermione, my temperamental Chihuahua, who whines and yelps all the way.
We get a room and Hermione gets to wear “a party hat” due to the red sticker on her chart. This is a warning to all who enter that she “Bites”. She has an odd dark spot on her head but everyone else passes inspection.

Well it all goes downhill from there. We had to have my son’s rat put to sleep, he lost use of his back legs due to old age. I never thought I would miss him so much. RIP Ricco.
Hermione’s spot ends up being benign Melanoma and earns her a short stay for her surgery. Hannah, my Dachshund comes down with a skin/ ear infection which is still plaguing her; as well as devastating weight loss. She is being treated for what we hope is pneumonia and not the big C.

So I am telling my woes to a friend and she replies “At least you don’t have disposable dogs.” She goes on to say that people have their animals put down for the least little ailment. I was horrified.
I understand that vet care can be expensive, but pets are like family. So if I have to give up lattes, hair appointments, vacations, whatever it takes to make my pets healthy again so be it.
So my wish is for 2012 to be a happier and healthier year for everybody and their pets!
Special thanks to the staff at Hiram Animal Hospital and GVS Georgia Vet Specialists for taking care of my babies.
