Family members welcomed home Georgia’s own sons and daughters today, of the 3-108th Reconnaissance, Surveillance, Targeting & Acquisition Squadron and Soldiers from the 221st Military Intelligence Battalion with their families at Oglethorpe Armory. About 300 Soldiers from the two units spent nearly a year deployed to Kosovo helping promote a safe and secure environment.

While deployed, the units conducted more than 500 tactical missions in northern Kosovo; removed roadblocks and reopened the main authorized boundary crossing point in northern Kosovo after six months; removed the last major roadblock impeding freedom of movement in northern Kosovo.  

During their time in Kosovo, the soldiers saved the U.S. Army millions of dollars by reestablishing ground resupply operations. They ceated a multi-national staff that worked effectively, becoming the model for multi-national integration. They also established relationships with local political leaders to assist in reducing tensions and encouraging dialogue.

The soliders worked side by side with Kosovo authorities, NonGovernment Organizations, and the Kosovo military, enhancing the standard of living for every citizen of Kosovo, through the donation of emergency response equipment, the construction of orchards and agricultural facilities, grants for public work projects, and English courses for students throughout the Joint Regional Detachment East.
