The American Red Cross Southern Blood Services Region is hoping to make backyard gatherings and mid-day lunch runs even more rewarding this spring as it partners with metro Atlanta area KFC restaurants for the “Lunch is On Us!” promotion. The promotion will provide a $5 KFC gift check for presenting blood donors at select blood drives May 1 through June 28, 2012, while supplies last.

“We are very appreciative of the Atlanta area KFC restaurants for their donation,” said Randy Edwards, chief executive officer, American Red Cross.  “Providing a $5 KFC gift check to our blood donors is a great way to thank our donors for their time and support.”

The “Lunch is On Us” promotion will be offered at dozens of blood drives throughout the metro Atlanta area during the months of May and June. A list of participating blood drives is available at redcrossblood.org/kfc.

“The KFC Atlanta area restaurants are proud to support the local efforts of the American Red Cross,” said Lisa Wynn-Taylor, KFC Field Marketing Leader. “The ’Lunch Is On Us’ program is a way for us to help recognize people who are really making a difference in our community.”

The American Red Cross Southern Blood Services Region provides lifesaving blood to more than 120 hospitals and must have 1,200 people give blood and platelets each weekday to meet hospital demand. Blood can be safely donated every 56 days.

Most healthy people age 17 and older, or 16 with parental consent, who weigh at least 110 pounds, are eligible to donate blood and platelets. Donors who are 18 and younger must also meet specific height and weight requirements.
