Take A Leap

Today is a day of unlocked potential-seize it!

For the last couple of days, I've been fighting off some kind of bug. So while I was laid up in bed, I watched my go-to-especially-when-I'm-sick show, Frasier. Last night, Feb 28th, I was watching "Look Before You Leap", an episode that aired on a leap year.

Frasier, as usual, insists everyone he knows to take advantage of the gift day and try something new or do something they'd been putting off.

Of course, in true Frasier fashion, not everything went as planned. All those who participated in the 'leap' landed flat on their bottoms, but that's where the comedy is, not my point.

I say do it. Take that leap, that chance. The Leap Day is intended to balance the calendar. So why not try some balancing? If you're a naturally cautious person, take a risk. Shake up your routine.

What's the old saying? "Nothing ventured, nothing gained"? What could you possibly have to lose? It's an extra day, right? I say take advantage!

For example, today I set up an interview for a day job I wouldn't normally take. Freelance writing doesn't bring in too much income and the normal day jobs I've held have never done anything for me but pay the rent. So I took that lead and made the leap. Yes, it isn't such a great leap, but the day isn't over!

The years not containing February 29th are considered 'common years'. But who desires a 'common' year? Today, strive to be uncommon. Book that flight you've always wanted to take. Always wanted a pet, hit up the shelter! Been afraid to get that haircut? Wanting to train for that marathon? Left something unsaid or undone? Today's your day. Don't let anything seem too small.

So I implore you, my Patch friends, to receive this day as a bonus. I of course welcome comments on how you spent your Leap Day but I'm more interested in you going out and doing it. Carpe diem, folks, seize the day!
