How to Register to Vote: It's Easy!

Voter Registration is Easy as 1 2 3. Feb 6, Deadline for Presidential Primary.

 

Becoming a qualified voter is an easy process. Applications can be filed out online, at local libraries, and local courthouses. To register to vote you must:

  • Be a citizen of the United States
  • Be a legal resident of the county
  • Be at least 171/2 years of age to register and 18 years of age to vote
  • Not be serving a sentence for conviction of a felony involving moral turpitude (Voting rights are automaticly restored after complition of sentence (GA)
  • Have not been found mentally incompetent by a judge

The Secretary of State’s Election Division offers an easy way to registered online.

There you will find a blank registration form to download and a link to an online voter register application. You must personally take or mail your application to your local courthouse. If you have already registered to vote, make sure your information is current and correct. You do not want to show up at the polls and find out there is a problem. If there is a problem ask for a provisional ballot. You can sort it out later.

The voter registration deadline for the 2012 Presidential Preference Primary is February 6, 2012. Below is a time line for voting in Georgia. You do not have to disclose your party affiliation to register.

O.C.G.A. 21-2-224 (a) “if any person whose name is not on the list of registered electors maintained by the Secretary of State under this article desires to vote at any general primary, general election, or presidential preference primary, such person shall make application as provided in this article by the close of business on the fifth Monday or, if such Monday is a legal holiday, by the close of business on the following business day prior to the date of such general primary, general election, or presidential preference primary.”
