Find details for the parade, fireworks and festivities happening all day.

Douglasville has events happening all day long Friday to celebrate America’s birthday during the annual Fourth of July celebration.

Festivities kick off with the parade at 10 a.m. in downtown Douglasville -- rain or shine. The start of the parade is at the corner of Church Street and Fairburn Road; it ends at Selman Drive. Get a good spot along the route early to watch the floats move down the street.

“We’re calling for all entries, from marching bands, dancers, patriotic floats, vehicles, walkers, and even animals,” said special projects coordinator Josie Whited, according to a previous Patch story. “Don’t forget to wear your red, white and blue, and please remember to do safety checks on floats and other entries.”

It’s not too late to register to be part of the parade. Applications must be submitted before noon July 3.

Parade participants are asked to follow the theme “Life, Liberty, and the Pursuit of Happiness” to compete for theme, design, presentation and originality.

After the parade, the annual S.H.A.R.E. House Festival will begin at 11 a.m. in Hunter Park and last until 4 p.m. Festivities include games, barbecue, live entertainment, vendors and the Douglasville Idol talent competition. S.H.A.R.E. House is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to providing emergency shelter and service to victims of domestic violence.

The main event of the day is fireworks lighting up the night sky beginning at dark. The best viewing locations are the north-side parking lot at Arbor Place Mall and surrounding areas.
