KDB Thanks Community for Clean Up Effort

Keep Douglasville Beautiful collected right at 6,000 pounds of electronics and scrap metal for recycling with our great partner, N.W. Georgia Recycling!

By Chan Weeks, Keep Douglasville Beautiful

Keep Douglasville Beautiful would like to thank all the residents who brought their old, unwanted, worn out and broken items to our Great American Cleanup Spring Recycling Event held this past Saturday, April 13. We collected right at 6,000 pounds of electronics and scrap metal for recycling with our great partner, N.W. Georgia Recycling! 105 televisions and computer monitors were also saved from the landfill thanks to Metal Recycling Services. This was KDB's first event to collect shoes and wow did we! 167 pairs of shoes were collected for reuse all around the globe, putting landfills on diets and teaching all that worn is not worn out. The Douglas County Lion's Club was also with us again and collect 67 eye glasses, 49 hearing aids and 71 cell phones for their Lighthouse Foundation that helps people around the world to see.

This event takes place twice a year, in the Spring and in the Fall. The Fall Recycling Event is set for Saturday, Oct. 5 again at First Presbyterian Church's overflow parking lot across from Freedom Island from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. We appreciate First Presbyterian Church's willingness to allow us to hold this event on their beautiful campus and their commitment to our community. The Fall Recycling Event will take all the same items, including shoes. We hope to add more items and further reduce our waste being sent to landfills. Check out our Facebook page and website for updates and for other great things KDB is doing to help our environment and our community!
