Shelter Overcrowded: 'Tom Cruise,' Moss are Pets of Week

There are currently 153 cats and 65 dogs at the shelter, and the shelter is overcrowded.

Each week, the Douglas County Animal Shelter highlights a cat and a dog as the “Pets of the Week”. All animals at the Shelter are looking for loving and permanent homes, and it is hoped that the “Pets of the Week” highlight will help bring attention to all of the animals currently housed at the Douglas County Animal Shelter.

Tom Cruise #9813 is as handsome as his movie star namesake! This male Rottweiler/Russell mix puppy has a black and tan smooth coat and is a lively little fellow.

Moss #9828 is a Domestic Short-hair kitten who loves to play with catnip toys. This little fur ball will pounce his way into your heart.

There are currently 153 cats and 65 dogs at the shelter, and the shelter is overcrowded. Some of the animals have already been spayed or neutered. All adoptable animals are listed on www.petfinder.com.

Cats available for adoption include domestic short hair, domestic medium hair and domestic long hair varieties. Most of the cats are very sweet, get along with other cats, and are litter box trained.

Dogs include pit bulls, pit bull mixes, Shepherd mixes, a purebred German Shepherd, Labrador Retriever mixes, Australian Shepherd mixes, Chihuahua mixes, Shih Tzu, Poodle mixes, Shar Pei mixes, Terrier mixes, Pug mixes and
more. Many of the dogs know simple commands, are very loving, seem to get along well with other dogs and somewhat house-trained.

The Douglas County Animal Shelter is open Tuesday - Sunday afternoons, and is located at 1755 County Services Road (off Cedar Mountain Road) adjacent to the Cedar Mountain Landfill approximately 4 ½ miles northwest of downtown Douglasville.
