Shelter Open New Hours, Including Evenings

The Douglas County Animal Shelter will begin new hours on Aug. 7.

Effective Tuesday, Aug. 7, the Douglas County Animal Shelter will have new hours that it will be open to the Public to make it more convenient for families and individuals to see and adopt available pets. The Shelter will open at noon Tuesday through Friday but will stay open until 7 p.m. on Tuesday and Thursday nights so that the public can come after working hours to see the animals.  The Shelter will continue to be open on Saturday and Sunday afternoon.

The new evening hours are in response to requests from the public, and are part of changes being made to improve the Animal Shelter after the initiated an independent study that made short- and long-term recommendations.

Douglas County Commission Chairman Tom Worthan stated, These new hours will allow our residents more convenient access to visit the Shelter and adopt pets for themselves and their families.  We have many animals who are ready to give unconditional love, and we are working to ensure that every adoptable animal finds a good home.”
