Safe Kids, Xpress Bus Changes and Girl Scouts

These are the five things you need to know today, May 17.

  1. Safe Kids Douglas County Coalition meeting will be held today from 10 to 11 a.m. at the (across from the Health Center) at 6810 Selman Drive. Organizers are encouraging anyone who may be interested in the coalition to attend.
  2. Xpress Bus System Seeks Comments on Proposed Service Changes today from 4:30 to 7:15 p.m., West Douglas Park and Ride Lot, Douglas Boulevard. GRTA Xpress Bus System is proposing to make the following changes to Route 461 which starts at the West Douglas Park and Ride and stops at the Douglas County Multi-modal Center en route to Midtown Atlanta: (1) eliminate all 5 a.m. and 5 p.m. trips; and (2) add an additional a.m. and p.m. trip. Meet with GRTA Xpress System representatives today to let them know how you feel about the proposed changes.
  3. University of West Georgia 2011 Wolves Caravan at O'Charley's will be held today at 6 p.m., .  Admission , See the 2010-11 highlight video and get info on UWG athletics and tickets. For more information, contact the UWG Office of Sports Information, at 678-839-6542.
  4. The Libertarian Party of Douglas County is hosting a free Hot Dog Cookout for the entire Douglas County community at . This family-friendly event will take place on Saturday from 4 to  p.m. at the pavilion near the lake. “This is open to the public and all are welcome regardless of ideology.” according to the chairman, Richard Segal.  The Cookout is being held in conjunction with Libertarian Party of Douglas County’s annual convention, where bylaw changes and election of officers will be voted upon. This family-friendly event is open to all, regardless of political ideology.   5. The Girl Scout Summer Badge Workshop will be located at , off of Ephesus Church Road.  There will be two one-week sessions.  The first week is titled Water, Water, Everywhere and be held June 6 through 10, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.) The second week is Pioneer and Native American Indians and will be held June 27 through July 1, from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. This workshop is open to all girls that will be entering Kindergarten in the fall through grade 5.  Girls do not have to be current Girl Scouts.  By enrolling in the camp they will be registered through GSGATL until September 2012.  The cost of the camp is $100 dollars for each session.
