Evelyn Ruth Mote Higgins Gazaway, 90, Dies

Funeral Services were held on Tuesday from Hightower's Memorial Chapel with Reverend Charles Gibbs officiating.

Evelyn Ruth Mote Higgins Gazaway, 90 and formerly of Austell, passed away Saturday, Sept. 8. She was born June 21, 1922 in Atlanta to Milligan Amos Mote and Dora Beatrice Ward Mote. Evenly was a member of Eastern Star, Austell Chapter, and she was one of the first volunteers at the new Cobb General Hospital in Austell for seven years. She was a member of Ewing Road Baptist Church. She retired from Walker Electric Company, Lockheed and Winn Dixie Distribution Center.

In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her children’s father, Willie Isaiah Higgins, and second husband Roy Gazaway; her brothers, Edward Mote, Joseph Daniel (Bud) Mote, Robert Lee Mote and Paul Leroy Mote; sisters, Vera Ellen Williams, Lona Beatrice Alexander, Goldie Juanita Stewart and Dora Jean Dean.

She is survived by her children, Peggy Webb (Jerry) of Powder Springs, Patsy Mitchell (Tony) of Douglasville, Ronnie Higgins (Evelyn) of Marietta, Kay Woody (Stanley) of Douglasville; sister, Margaret Harmison of Cedartown; sister-in-law, Vivian Mote of Carrollton; 12 grandchildren , 16 great-grandchildren, three great-great-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.  The family acknowledges the love and care of several nurses and aids at Douglasville Nursing and Rehabilitation, Katrina, Monique, Tabatha, Nicole, Loyce, Vickie and Cindy.

Interment  followed at Westview Cemetery in Atlanta, Georgia.
