Douglas Receives Georgia Sheriffs' Association Honors

Two members of the agency were singled out for their work with youth.

Two members of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office received "Deputy Sheriff of the Year" honors from the Georgia Sheriffs' Association.

Investigator Shay Brooks and Lt. Bryan Wood received the honors "for their development and implementation of the M.A.C.E. Program," according to a post on the Douglas County Sheriff's Office Facebook page.

The Making a Change Early program gives teenagers between the ages of 13 and 17 a "realistic and aggressive" look at prison life and inmates to deter them from engaging in behavior that could land them behind bars.

A&E's "Beyond Scared Straight" will feature the program in an episode set to air at 10 p.m. Thursday.
