3 Tornado Warnings, 'We Were Lucky'

Despite three tornado warnings for Douglas County, there was no evidence a tornado touched the ground and there was no serious damage, Wes Tallon said, director of communications for the county.

The National Weather Service notified the county of three tornado warnings, "but they're just looking at their computer screens and telling us what their Doppler radar show them," Tallon said. "They can tell you when there appears to be a rotation but they can't tell you if it's touching the ground in the area.

"Until you see the sucker you don't really know what's it's doing. People saw rotating winds but from what we can tell, nothing touched down."

The National Weather Service notified the county that a trained weather spotter in Winston had seen a tornado aloft.

"There were limbs down and stuff like that from the wind," he said. "We dodged the proverbial bullet. If you were watching the TV, you saw the same weather system that passed over us lead to destruction in Paulding, Cobb and Cherokee counties.

"We're lucky it didn't land here," Tallon said. "It just went right over us."
