The Animals Need Our Help

Take A Two Minute Tour of Our Animal Shelter. This was the Douglas County animal shelter on Sunday afternoon May 27th. The animal shelter is full, there is no more room for dogs or cats and more are arriving each day. The shelter presently has approximately 90 dogs and 90 cats and they need to have at least a third of thsoe adopted or rescued this week before Thursday afternoon. Recent adoptions and rescues have continued to be steady, however, there have not been enough adoptions or rescues to stem the tide of animals arriving daily.

Have a look at the video and take a short two minute tour of the dog kennels and see just how packed they are right now. There is a large variety of dogs and cats available at the shelter right now, many of which are spayed/neutered and have had their rabies vaccinations. All have had their Parvo, distemper and kennel cough vaccinations.

There are presently approximately forty puppies of various ages and the same number of kittens available for adoption and rescue. The cats and kittens are in equally desperate need of adoption and rescue. Please visit the shelter this week and encourage your friends to visit also. These fur kids deserve a second chance at life and many won't get that chance if they are not adopted or rescued before Thursday afternoon.

Thursday afternoon, decisions will have to be made concerning euthanasia on Friday morning. Animals will be put to sleep Friday morning to alleviate over crowding and to create space for new arrivals at the shelter. Time is critical this week for many of these animals as there simply isn't enough space and if they cannot find adoptive homes by Thursday afternoon, there are no other alternatives.

So please consider coming to the shelter this week to adopt a pet. Adopt one of these fur kids and give them a forever home and a second chance at life. If we all pull together this crisis can be avoided.
