DC Chamber Accepting Youth Leadership Douglas Applications

The Douglas County Chamber is announcing that applications for the 2013-2014 Youth Leadership Douglas program are now available.

By Sara Ray, Douglas County Chamber

The goals of Youth Leadership Douglas are to provide opportunities for participants to develop an understanding of the meaning and responsibilities of personal, organizational and community leadership and to produce ethical leaders committed to active community involvement. This program is a partnership between the Chamber and the Douglas County School System.

Leadership is more than just raw talent and determination. While a portion of great leadership is aptitude, a great deal of what it takes to be a leader is skill based and can be learned. Participants will acquire and broaden their knowledge of local government, business and civic activities through this four month leadership program. The Youth Leadership Douglas program is highly interactive which permits participants to review the impact each topic has on themselves as well as the larger community. The program was redeveloped in 2010 by YLD Coordinators Sara Ray, DC Chamber, and Ruby Byers, DC School System, and will provide students with personal and professional development opportunities that cater to each individual. The program will allow students to embrace the changes of technology by submitting their assignments through various social media outlets and alsoΒ to select their assignments based on their personal interests.
