Curiosity Shoppe Opens in Douglasville

This new Douglasville business offers a unique shopping experience inside and out.

By Sara Ray, Douglas County Chamber

The Curiosity Shoppe, located at 7322 Bankhead Hwy in Douglasville, held its ribbon cutting on Sept. 13. Owned and operated by Rachel Hendee, the shop opened its doors on Sept. 8.

The Curiosity Shoppe offers a unique shopping experience inside and out.  You will find curiosities from elegant to primitive. The creatively displayed and themed rooms are filled with antiques, vintage, repurposed, and newer gently used items. Shoppers will find furniture, linens, pottery, china, artwork, costume jewelry, quilts, glassware, vintage cameras, things for the garden lover, collectibles, and everything in between. Upstairs boasts children’s used book nook with thousands of quality books, a Man Cave, and a super bargain priced rummage room of those things that just don’t quite fit the unique aspect of the rest of the shop.

The shop staff brings the culmination of years of a love of creativity, gardening, and reading, collecting unique things, repurposing objects, and teaching. Additionally, the shop maintains a policy of wasting as little as possible and being kind to the environment. Paper and cardboard is donated to a recycling bin benefitting a local elementary school, metal and plastic are repurposed or taken to the recycler. Water is collected from the dehumidifier, downspouts, and air conditioner condenser tube, and is used to water planters around the shop. Future plans include planting a small garden area that will benefit butterflies, other pollinating insects, and birds.

Located at 7322 Bankhead Hwy, next to the Boys and Girls Club, the shop is easily accessed and provides ample parking. From I-20, take the Fairburn road exit to Bankhead Hwy, turn left, pass through downtown Douglasville, and go about a mile, the shop is on the left. Or, from Hwy 5, drive to Bankhead Hwy, turn right at Turner’s Feed store, go about ½ mile and the Curiosity Shoppe is on the right.
