Operation Round Up fosters student goals

Tyler Willingham graduated from Duluth High School and attends Georgia Perimeter College, where she majors in biology/pre-veterinary.

GreyStone members are helping these students reach their education goals by rounding up their power bills to the next dollar each month. There are more than 25,000 members who give to the Operation Round Up program, which costs each participant approximately $6 annually. Since 1999, more than $1.2 million has been raised by GreyStone members for community needs.

In addition to the Foundation Scholarship, Operation Round Up also funds two $2,500 scholarships for two technical college students. The Tim B. Clower scholarship is awarded in honor of a former GreyStone president and his dedication to technical education. West Georgia Technical College and Chattahoochee Technical College representatives select the winning students, who must reside in GreyStone’s service area.

Along with funding scholarships, Operation Round Up provides severely needed funds to nonprofit organizations in our community. Organizations that have received funds in the past include the Boys & Girls Clubs of Douglas and Paulding, Communities in Schools of Douglas County, CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates), Paulding County Cops for Kids and the American Red Cross.

The Foundation Board of Directors decides how to allocate funding for Operation Round Up funds. The group is made up of nine representatives from GreyStone’s service area.
