GreyStone member speaks at EPA session

A GreyStone Power representative, member Jim Storey, recently attended an Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) listening session in Atlanta to comment on proposed regulations on new coal-fired power plants. Storey joined with the majority of speakers who opposed the proposed regulations.

Approximately 70 speakers attended the EPA’s two three-hour listening sessions. Speakers included representatives from six electric membership corporations (EMCs), including GreyStone; Oglethorpe Power, a generation and transmission cooperative that serves 39 EMCs in Georgia; and Georgia EMC, the statewide trade association that serves Georgia’s EMCs.

Cooperative presenters remarked on the impact of regulations on energy costs and the impact of increased energy costs on Georgians. The Georgia Chamber also testified about the detrimental impact that proposed rules on greenhouse gas emissions would have on the accessibility and affordability of energy in Georgia.

GreyStone President/CEO Gary Miller recently urged members of the cooperative to send a message to the EPA. “We need your help to urge the EPA to stick by an ‘All-of-the-Above’ energy strategy, using every resource available for generating electricity, instead of an ‘All-But-One’ strategy, rejecting coal plants as part of the energy mix,” Miller said.

Members and concerned citizens can visit www.Action.coop to send a message to the EPA regarding their proposals.
