More than 3,600 Attend GreyStone Annual Meeting

More than 3,600 GreyStone Power members and their families attended the 2012 Annual Meeting of Members on Oct. 13, with 1,412 registered members taking an active interest in their cooperative. The theme of this year’s event was “Illuminate,” and members were encouraged to learn about the products and services that GreyStone offers beyond energy. 

This is the third year that GreyStone has brought attention to energy conservation through a Together We Save® Energy Efficiency Expo. Several specialized businesses gathered at the expo to demonstrate the value of energy-efficient products and services. GEMC Federal Credit Union was also on-site offering low-interest loans for energy efficiency improvements.

Other highlights included a free Chick-fil-A® biscuit for members and their families, games and inflatables for children, pony rides, and a child identification program. More than 3,000 members visited GreyStone’s health fair, which offered a variety of screenings and information on how to live healthier.

Cumberland River, a bluegrass band from Kentucky, performed an hour-long set during the event. The band has had eight original songs used on the FX network’s hit TV drama, “Justified.” Last year, the band was chosen as an official showcase performer for the International Bluegrass Music Association’s World of Bluegrass held in Nashville, Tenn.

During the business portion of the meeting, GreyStone President/CEO Gary Miller told members about the cooperative’s successful past year. He also spoke about GreyStone’s rank in recent Georgia Public Service Commission surveys.

“GreyStone comes in at fifth lowest in winter rates among the 42 co-ops in Georgia. We’ve worked hard to keep our rates competitive,” he said. The Georgia Public Service Commission’s residential rate surveys rank electric service providers based on total electric bill amounts and are conducted biannually.

During the business meeting, members elected directors without opposition (uncontested) from Districts 1, 4 and 8 by voice vote. No candidates were nominated through petition by members this year. Elected were incumbents Calvin Earwood, Burnell Redding and Jim Johns. 

The event concluded with 38 door prizes. GreyStone member Burtlee Parson of Douglasville won the grand-prize giveaway, a 2006 Chevy C1500 truck retired from the GreyStone fleet. Member Rose McGhee of Lithia Springs was the lucky winner of a $250 GreyStone bill credit.
