GreyStone Linemen Assist Virginia Co-op

GreyStone's linemen are helping out after snow hit Virginia this week.

GreyStone Power Corporation sent three two-man crews to Fredericksburg, Virginia on March 5 to assist with storm restoration efforts.

After hearing reports of wet, heavy snow in the forecast, Rappahannock Electric Cooperative (REC) in Fredericksburg reached out to other power providers for help. Along with assistance from Georgia came help from linemen in Kentucky, Maryland, Pennsylvania and North Carolina, more than doubling REC’s workforce.

The snow began falling on Tuesday evening, bringing six inches to Fredericksburg. On Wednesday, REC had more than 51,000 outages, or about 32 percent of the co-op’s more than 157,000 connections. Some of REC’s members, who are located in portions of 22 Virginia counties, face the prospect of being without power for several days. Much of REC’s service area is rural and difficult to access under normal conditions.
