'Mirror Mirror' Reflects Modern Twists

Snow White gets a makeover, while Julia Roberts becomes the queen you'll love to hate.

It's more than just a remake of Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs. Sure, the evil queen banishes her stepdaughter to the woods to avoid the attention of Prince Charming, but don't expect the same outcome in Mirror Mirror.

Julia Roberts is well-suited to play the evil queen. Lily Collins plays Snow White, and Armie Hammer is the prince. A great supporting cast makes this a film for young and old to enjoy.

Adopted by a group of rebellious but kind dwarves, Snow White transforms into a brave young woman, determined to save her country from the queen.

The movie is fun to watch. The filmmakers have changed a few of the key elements of the story, including adding modern sensibilities.

That mix of modern and traditional story lines doesn't fit sometimes, so the flick-o-meter gives Mirror Mirror three out of five. It's neither scary nor hilarious, neither real nor surreal; it's just an interesting twist on a story that perhaps needs no rewrite.

We’ll see yet another twist this spring when Snow White and the Huntsman arrives with Charlize Theron as the queen.
