Here Comes the Hydrangea Festival

Mark your calendar for the fourth annual Penny McHenry flower festival, sponsored by the Douglas County Tourism and History Commission.

Have you noticed some of the mailboxes here and there on Douglasville’s streets are covered with hydrangeas and lovely ribbons? Have you seen the trees wearing large blue ribbons and blue bunting fastened to the front railings at the Douglas County Courthouse?

The decorations signal it is almost time for the fourth annual Penny McHenry Hydrangea Festival  sponsored by the Douglas County Tourism and History Commission. The festival honors Penny McHenry, the founder of the American Hydrangea Society,  and will be held Saturday and Sunday, June 4 and 5. Most events will be held on the grounds of the Douglas County Courthouse.  Last year the festival was attended by people from more than 55 Georgia cities, 10 states, two foreign countries, as well as folks from Douglas County.

Saturday’s daytime events include a Festival Market featuring plants, fine arts, antiques, jewelry, food items and many other things. The flower show was a popular event last year with more than 450 entries and returns again this year.   Daytime garden tours (see ticket information here), display gardens and lectures will also be available.  Sunday’s schedule includes the same events minus the lectures.
