Storm's Gone but Today's Tornado Season

DC Lady Tigers are cutting through opponents like a tornado too. Their potential schedule is just one of the things you need to know today; March 1.

  1. The calm after the storm. After the threat of tornadoes Monday night, today is going to be beautiful, according to the National Weather Service. The service predicts a high near 63. Tonight will be mostly clear with calm winds. The weather stays nice until Friday, when there's a 20 percent chance of rain. For the complete Douglasville forecast, read here.
  2. Appropriately after Monday’s storm and tornado warning, today is the start of tornado season in Georgia.  Not long ago most Douglasville residents  probably didn’t think they’d need to concern themselves with tornadoes. Things changed when a tornado touched down in the middle of downtown Atlanta in 2008. Get prepared by making a quick trip to GEMA’s Ready Georgia campaign website–www.ready.ga.gov–and create an online profile to generate a custom checklist and family communications plan which takes less than an hour.
  3. The Girls Basketball Team is undefeated and continue to move on through the state playoffs. Their next game is tonight, at home, at 7 p.m.. If they win tonight, on March 4 they will play at the University of West Georgia; March 9 at Gwinnett Arena (semifinals); and March 11 at Gwinnett Arena (championship).
  4. It’s the fourth anniversary this spring of Citi TV in Douglasville, the city government cable channel on Comcast Cable. wrote an article with video you won't want to miss at 10 a.m. today on Patch, of course.
  5. The Cultural Arts Council of Douglasville/Douglas County will be having the reception for the annual Youth Art Month at the on March 6, from 2 to 4 p.m.  The exhibition celebrates the talents of children and young people in the Douglas County Schools, represented by more than 200 art works created by students in kindergarten through twelfth grades and selected by their visual arts teachers. The reception is hosted by Friends of Arts and Music Education (F.A.M.E.), a CAC satellite organization. Yes, this was listed in 5 Things on Monday, but you should make plans to go because what could be more important than supporting youth art in Douglas County.
