Save Gas by Catching Music and a Movie Right Here This Weekend

Shopping, a concert, hunting and a movie - there's something for everyone to enjoy this weekend.

1. What:  Friday Night Flicks features The Goonies

  • Where:  O’Neal Plaza
  • When:  Friday at 8 p.m.
  • Details:  What better way to spend a Friday night with your family than enjoying the movie The Goonies on O’Neal Plaza? Bring your own seating and arrive early for fun contests and entertainment before the movie begins. Admission is free, and the event is open to the public.

2. What:  Hunting 101

  • Where:  Sweetwater Creek State Park
  • When:  Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
  • Details:  Have you ever wanted to learn the basics of hunting? Now is your chance! The Hunting 101 class at Sweetwater is a basic class for people who have never hunted. This is an indoor class. Students will learn about everything from how and why people hunt to information about equipment and game species. Don’t forget to bring your own sack lunch. Admission is $5 and advanced registration is available.

 3. What:  Back-to-School Concert

  • Where:  Six Flags Over Georgia’s Southern Star Amphitheater
  • When:  Saturday at 6 p.m. (doors open at 5 p.m.)
  • Details:  Six Flags is hosting a concert to mark the start of the school year. An assortment of Christian rock and pop artists will be performing, including Leeland, Red and Jonny Diaz. Entrance to the concert is free, but attendees must pay for parking and entrance to the park.

 4. What:  Book Collection and Book Sale for the Dog River Library

  • Where:  Douglas County Courthouse  
  • When:  Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Details:  If you are in need of some new reading material, why not stop by this used book sale this weekend? Paperback books are fifty cents and hardcover books are $1 to $3. The sale benefits the new Dog River Library. If you have some new or gently used books lying around your house that you are not going to read, bring them along to donate to the cause.

 5. What:  Halloween Preview Party

  •  When:  Saturday, 10 a.m. to noon
  • Details:  Yankee Candle will be offering a “frightfully fun” preview of its new Boney Bunch accessories this weekend. Fans of the popular collection know it tends to sell out fast–this is your chance to see the full collection. Attendees will receive door prizes while supplies last and customers will receive a free Boney Bunch candle with any purchase, also while supplies last.
