Spring Means Sports Physicals, Walk-a-Thon

Get your children ready for sports with a discounted physical or promote family activity by participating in a walking event. These are a few of the things necessary to know today; March 8.

  1. Sports Physcials for Youth. As children and teenagers head to the field to participate in organized sports activities, MinuteClinic walk-in medical clinics inside select /pharmacy stores across the country are making it easy and more affordable for them to get the physicals they need to play.
The physicials are being offered currently, through May 31, MinuteClinic will offer spring sports physicals at $39 ($20 off the standard price of $59). The pre-participation physicals–required by many states, school systems and athletic leagues–are administered by certified MinuteClinic nurse practitioners and physician assistants who specialize in family health care. Exams are offered seven days a week, including weekday evenings, and no appointment is necessary.
  2. Walk-a-Thon for Higher Standards Foundation, Inc.will be held on Saturday, March 19. Walk to promote the importance of family, fitness, and fellowship for stronger communities. The walk begins at the Stewart Middle School track on Hwy 92 North at 9 a.m. Download a promotional flyer and registration form today from www.higherstandardsfoundationinc.org.
  3. Tele-communiting on the rise. Watch for a feature article this week on a Douglasville business promoting tele-commuting. A recent survey of metro Atlanta commuters shows that the fastest-growing means of getting to work is turning on a computer, not turning a key in the ignition.Twenty-seven percent of commuters now telework at least occasionally, compared to 20 percent in 2007 – a 35 percent increase in just three years. The percentage of frequent teleworkers has increased by 75 percent, with seven percent of all commuters now teleworking at least three days a week.
  4. Get ready to catch Spring Fever in Downtown Douglasville on April 30.  The festivities kick off with a Spring Tour of Homes from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.  The Saturday only tour will feature never before seen homes, an Interior Decorator’s showcase, and great ideas for decorating.   Tickets are $15 a person and are available for purchase at the Douglasville Welcome Center and online at www.downtowndouglasville.org.  Shuttles will be provided.  All ticket sale profits will go to the Downtown Development Authority’s downtown revitalization efforts.
