Shopping, Running Top Events This Weekend

These are the five things you need to know today, April 8.

  1. Road Closure on Carmel Drive off Pope Road. Due to storm water structure damage, Carmel Drive at address 3215 will be closed effective immediately until the can do the repairs. Any addresses up to 3215 can be accessed from Pope Road. All other addresses can be accessed from Pope Rd. to Carmel Dr. to Jessica Dr. to Sandra Drive to Barabra Dr., back to Camel Dr. or from Pope Rd. to Bomar Rd. to Barry Farm Road to Delena Farm Rd. to Carmel Dr. A formal detour route and signage are pending.   2. Outdoor Burn Permit and Fire Danger Status will now be listed daily on Douglas County Website. The Douglas County Website, www.CelebrateDouglasCounty.com, now has an easy-to-use box to give our residents the latest notifications on whether outdoor burning permits will be issued on any given day.  The box is located in the center of the web site home page, and is labeled “Burn Permits/Fire Index." The Burn Permits/Fire Index is updated weekday mornings by the Douglas County Fire/EMS Department to reflect multiple issues that affect whether or not outdoor burning permits will be issued that day.  Factors considered include drought conditions, dryness conditions, and wind.
  3. Women of War Praise and Worship Conference will be held again today and Saturday from 7 p.m., at the , 8510 Newman Street.  Praise Party, 7 p.m., Saturday, Admission is free. For more information, contact www.womwnofwarconference.com.
  4. Douglas County Lion's Club Yard Sale will be held Saturday at 8 a.m., at the Godfrey Insurance Agency, 8387 Adair Street. The event is  open to the public and the proceeds used to purchase glasses and/or hearing aids for those unable to pay for them.
  5. The Douglas County Parks and Recreation Track and Field Championship Competition will be held Saturday at 10 a.m., at the Lithia Springs High School. The event is for Douglas County residents (only) ages 6 to 15 and includes the following events: 50, 100, 200, 400, 800, 1600 meter, 4 x 100, 4 x 400, standing long jump, softball throw, running long jump, high jump (no athletes on middle or high school track teams eligible). Entry fee is $5 per competitor per event. Winners will represent Douglas County in the District 5 meet.  Must register by today. This is a program of the Douglas County Board of Commissioners through its Parks and Recreation Department. For more information, call 770-920-7129.
