Sea Cadets Graduate, Dance for Free

These are the five things you need to know today, July 29.

  1. Six Navy Sea Cadets Corps-Warrior Division out of Douglasville, graduated July 11, from US Navy Sea Cadets Corps Training in Malin, TN. Navy Sea Cadets Corps is a private JROTC program that provides for young men and women (ages 11-14 for Navy League Cadet and 13-17 for Navy Sea Cadet Corps) who have a desire to learn about the Navy, Marine Corps, Coast Guard and Merchant Marine. Sea Cadets are authorized by the Secretary of the Navy to wear Navy uniforms appropriately marked with the Sea Cadet Corps insignia.Β The objectives of the Sea Cadet program are to introduce youth to naval life, to develop in them a sense of pride, patriotism, courage, and self-reliance, and to maintain an environment free of drugs and gangs.
  2. The City of Douglasville Parks and Recreation Department will host the 2nd Annual City of Douglasville Long Drive Championship on Saturday at . Registration will begin at 8:30 a.m. with the competition beginning at 9 a.m., running until noon. This event is for both men and women with five divisions. Jr. (ages 13 and under) High School (ages 14-18) Open (ages 19-35) Elite (ages 36-55) and Sr. (56+). The entry fee for all participants is $10 for four attempts.   3. Free Career Seminars at Mercer University on Blairs Bridge Road will be held on Saturday, from 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Mercer University Douglas County Center, 975 Blairs Bridge Road, Lithia Springs. Seminars on resume writing and application development, do's and don'ts of professional interactions, managing your finances through career change, and how to start your own business.   4. National Dance Day Celebration will be held Saturday, from 9:30 a.m., Douglasville Jazzercize, Douglas Corners Shopping Center. Admission is free. This will be a celebration of National Dance Day with routines by "So You Think You Can Dance?" choreographers.   5. "Just So You Will Know" Legal Seminar will be held on Saturday, from 10 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., at the Golden Memorial United Methodist Church, 6903 Forrest Avenue. Admission is free. Legal information will be given on consumer, elder, family and criminal law; fair credit reporting; landlord-tenant contracts; Magistrate Court information and more.
