Savor Summer Sampler this Weekend
A wine tasting, big sales at the mall and a country music concert are just a few ways to have fun this weekend without leaving the county.
1. What: “Better than Tax Free” weekend shopping
- Where: Arbor Place Mall stores and restaurants
- When: Thursday, July 28 through Sunday, July 31
- Details: Georgia lawmakers haven’t offered up a tax-free weekend in two years, but that hasn’t stopped Arbor Place Mall from taking advantage of its absence. This weekend, stores and restaurants such as , , , , Princess, , , , Kawii, , , and more are offering great deals ranging from free Chick-fil-A sandwiches to major discounts on clothing.

2. What: 2011 Summer Sampler wine tasting
- Where: (Friday) and (Saturday)
- When: Friday, July 29 and Saturday, July 30 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m.
- Details: Join the City of Douglasville Downtown Development Authority for its annual Summer Sampler. For just $15 (or $30 if you attend both nights), guests can enjoy light hors d’oeuvres, live music and wine from local vineyards. Guests will also receive a Summer Sampler souvenir glass. To purchase tickets, visit the Downtown Douglasville website or visit the Douglasville Welcome Center at 6694 Broad Street. Guests must be at least 21 years old.

3. What: Doug Stone Concert to benefit CASA

- Where: Fairfield Plantation Golf and Country Club in Villa Rica
- When: Saturday, July 30 at 8:30 p.m.
- Details: Country music artist Doug Stone will be performing. The concert costs $21.40 per person and a portion of money raised will benefit CASA of Douglas County. CASA, which stands for Court Appointed Special Advocates, is a group that advocates for the best interests of abused and neglected children in foster care.

4. What: Twilight Canoe
- Where: Sweetwater Creek State Park
- When: Friday, July 29 at 8 p. m.
- Details: If a peaceful lake outing at sunset sounds like a great way to spend your Friday night, you might want to head over to Sweetwater for the “Twilight Canoe.” The event is led by a ranger and is only open to adults who are at least 18 years old, can swim and have some canoeing experience. Attendance is $15.00, which includes a canoe, paddle and PFD. The $5.00 parking fee is separate.

5. What: Saturday Night Bingo
