Pritz Named to Governor’s Education Board

Help for divorced dads and happenings at the Douglas County Chamber of Commerce are among the things you should know today, March 22.

  1. Pritz Named to Governor’s Education Advisory Board. Douglas County School System Superintendent Dr. Gordon Pritz has been named to Governor Nathan Deal's Education Advisory Board. This board is comprised of four different groups of school superintendents, principals, teachers and school board members across Georgia. These groups will work with the governor to ensure the best decisions will be made for Georgia's students. Dr. Pritz has worked as an educator since 1977 as a teacher, coach, and administrator. He has served in his role of Superintendent of the since 2010. He is one of 13 superintendents named to the advisory board.
  2. Divorced Dads. To avoid a “Charlie Sheenesque” meltdown of divorced dads, Douglasville-based newcomer Lance Brooks International has set out to offer programs in support of fathers who desire to strengthen and maintain relationships with their children after divorce. The company will host its first fatherhood-focused event next month. Lance Brooks International (www.lancebrooksinternational.com) is a corporation centered on helping individuals develop professionally and personally in leadership and relationship building.  
  3. DC Chamber Now Accepting Applications. The ’s youth leadership program, Youth Leadership Douglas(YLD), is now accepting applications for the 2011-2012 program.  This program is for high school juniors in public and private schools in Douglas County.  For more information on this program, please contact Sara Ray at 770-942-5022 or apply online at www.douglascountygeorgia.com.
  4. Children with Disabilities meeting. The Georgia Department of Education will be in Douglas County to hold a Parent/Guardian Meeting for parents/guardians of children with disabilities in the Douglas County School System. The Georgia Department of Education would like to talk with parents/guardians about how their children are progressing in math and how IEP teams decide to place children in general education and/or special education classes. Parents/Guardians are invited to attend this very important meeting on March 29, at 6 p.m. at the .   5. 2011 Chairman’s Club. The has announced its newest member: Rocky Lipham III,   President of .  The mission of the Chairman's Club is to convene community-minded, senior level business people to be visionaries for the Chamber and a voice for business in our community. Lipham has more than 20 years of banking experience. After leaving the University of West Georgia, he worked in various management positions with CB&T of West Georgia, a division of Synovus.  In 1994, he joined West Georgia National Bank and in 2004, he was named President. In July 2007, he was named Chief Executive Officer of the merged bank, First National Bank of Georgia. Most recently, in 2010, he was named President of the West Region of Community & Southern Bank.
