'Primary Colors' Opens, Soccer Championship Held

These are the five things you need to know today, April 11.

  1. Public Forum In Carrollton to Discuss Developmental Disabilities. On Thursday, residents from Carroll, Coweta, Douglas, Haralson, Heard and Paulding counties are welcome to share their ideas and hear the latest on policy and programs which affect people with developmental disabilities.  The Georgia Council on Developmental Disabilities (GCDD) (www.GCDD.org) will facilitate a public forum from 5:30 to 7 p.m. at the Carroll EMC, 155 N. Highway 113 in Carrollton.  Advocates, neighbors and community leaders are encouraged to attend to interact directly with state and local officials and to take this opportunity to make public comment.
  2. National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week, Celebrated Monday through Friday, this week salutes the and Dispatchers and Administrative Staff for their poise under pressure, aid and compassion in times of distress and critical decision-making within seconds that make the difference between life and death in many instances. Thank you for your service!
  3. "Primary Colors" Exhibit Opens in the Courthouse Gallery opens Tuesday, from 4:30 to 6 p.m. The Opening Reception will be held on the third floor, Douglas County Courthouse. The event is open to the public with free admission. Primary Colors features the art of elementary school students in the Douglas County School System and will be on view through April 28. This is a program of the Douglas County Board of Commissioners through its Department of Communications and Community Relations.
  4. The Douglas County Schools Soccer Championship will also be on Tuesday, starting at 5:30 p.m., at , 5000 Highway 92/166. The championship will feature Turner Middle School vs. Chapel Hill Middle School, price of admission is $4. 
  5. The Mass Food Distribution and Resource Fair will be held on Wednesday, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the , 8310 Duralee Lane. Food will be provided by Tallatoona CAP and is an income-eligible program. Food will be available on a first come, first served basis and is available to all eligible recipients with proof of residency and household income. Other resources are available as well.
