Play Under the Full Moon This Weekend

Take advantage of the full moon this weekend with a late-night hike or discounted food and drinks.

1. What: Full Moon Blacklight Party

  • Details: Celebrate the full moon by making a late-night trip to Applebees. Enjoy half-price appetizers and special drink prices in a fun, party atmosphere.

2. What: Kids Sign Up for Fall Baseball and Softball

  • Where: Bill Arp Park
  • When: Saturday, Aug. 13, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Details: If your children are planning to play baseball or football this fall, it’s time to get them registered. Softball is open to girls ages 4 to 14 and the cost is $45 or $55 for fast pitch. Baseball for boys ages 3 to 10 is $65 and $80 for ages 11 to 14.

3. What: Potty Training Class

  • Details: Having trouble potty training your new or old dog? Douglas County is offering a class just for you at Deer Lick Park. The hour-long class will discuss food, scheduling and the how-to’s of training. Admission to the class is $25. 

4. What: “Ruins to Rapids” Full Moon Hike

  • Where: Sweetwater Creek State Park
  • When: Saturday, Aug. 13, from 8 to 10 p.m.
  • Details: Sweetwater Creek State Park will also be taking advantage of the full moon this weekend when it offers its night-time hike along the rapids to the New Manchester textile mill ruins. The hike is 1.5 miles. Bring your flashlight and a good pair of shoes. No dogs or children under six years of age allowed. The hike costs $6 plus $5 for parking.

5. What: Osenbaugh's Last Tribute to Elvis

  • Where: The Mill Amphitheater in downtown Villa Rica
  • When: Saturday, Aug. 13 at 7 p.m.
  • Details: Jeff Osenbaugh has been impersonating Elvis for nearly 30 years, and now he’s giving his last performance in Villa Rica. The concert will be hosted by Extreme Gene of Extreme Gene Karaoke and will include performances by Christian rapper T-Mac; musicians David Carter, Ray Sewell and Jimmy Fristad; and the dance group Local Motion from the U-Can Dance Club.
