Pennies for Pooches Today

Donate to the Douglas County Sheriff's Department K9 Unit or make plans for the weekend; these are the five things you need to know today, March 11.

  1. Today is "Pennies for Police Service Dogs," a fundraiser to Chase Away K9 Cancer, by the K9 Unit. Sixteen elementary schools in the are bringing in their pennies to help Chase Away K9 Cancer and honor the lives and service of police dogs. You can help. Take pennies to any participating school, or bring them to the courthouse, where 16 buckets are set up to receive donations. This is a program of the Douglas County Sheriff's Department through its K9 Unit, Lt. Mike Barnhill, 678-486-1220.
  2. Kinna Classic Chamber Concert with Brien Engel playing the Glass Harp will be held at the ο»Ώο»Ώ on Saturday at 7 p.m. Engel is part of an exciting new community helping to revive and promote the enchanting art of glass music. His glass harp is composed of water-filled goblets and snifters of various sizes, which he plays by carefully rubbing their rims with moistened fingers. $15 tickets ($12 for CAC members)
  3. Bill Arp Falcons Football Team Early Registration will be Saturday at 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Bill Arp Park. This is for ages 5 to 12.

  4. 2nd Annual Pilot Club Bridal Show at will be held Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., 7475 Douglas Boulevard (across from Kia). This event is open to the public, $5 at the door with proceeds going to Pilot Club projects. There will be two fashion shows, live vow renewal, vendors for cakes, jewelry, dresses, gifts and more.

  5. Roadside Party to Collect Clothing, School Supplies, Food and Household Items will be conducted Saturday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., Liberty Tax Service, 3226 Highway 5, to benefit Divine Destiny Christian Center International's programs with single parents who need help with day-to-day issues.
