Parks & Recs Celebrates Black History Today, More School Performances On Tap

February is not over yet and Douglas County still has plenty of celebrations to enjoy.

The Golden Years Club and Douglas County Parks and Recreation collaboratively presents their annual Black History Month Celebration today at 10:30 a.m.at the Deer Lick Park Activity Center.

Black History Month is still being celebrated in Douglas County Schools too.

Beulah Elementary School
On Feb. 28, there will be a school-wide presentation "Black History - Past to the Present." One of our substitute teachers is assisting the fifth grade teachers in preparation for the performance. The performance will include a PowerPoint, a short skit on Rosa Parks, a poem, and dance. Kindergarten - 2nd grades will see the performance at 9:30 and 3rd - 5th grades at 8:30 in the cafe.

Chapel Hill Elementary School
Students will present a play on Thursday, Feb. 28 called "Black History We Love" about famous African Americans they love. The play will be coordinated by one of the second grade teachers, Nikki Jones. A black history month program will be held where our chorus will sing, students will perform monologues, poems, and dances.

Turner Middle School
Black History Month celebration will be held on Feb. 28 at 9:30 a.m. in the school gym. Keynote speaker to be announced later. There will also be performances by the chorus, band and a few students.

Yeager Middle School
The month will culminate with Diversity Night: A Celebration of Food, Music, and Cultures on Thursday, Feb. 28, from 6 to 7:30 p.m. in the Cafeteria. Homerooms on all three grade levels are encouraged to take a table in the cafeteria to do a presentation of some sort, whether it be a display, food presentation, clothing presentations, music, etc.
