Newly Renovated Plaza East Opens Friday

The City of Douglasville has announced the ribbon cutting for the newly renovated Plaza East will be on Friday, Dec. 7, at 1:30 p.m.

Over the past year, Plaza East in Downtown Douglasville has been getting a new look. Plaza East is located between O’Neal Plaza and Campbellton Street in what was once an alleyway that was filled with gravel and sometimes debris. It is now filled with brick pavers, pedestrian lighting, landscaping, and has access for those with disabilities throughout.

This project was the result of a Transportation Enhancement Grant that was issued in 2004 by the Georgia Department of Transportation in the in the amount of $493,750. The City of Douglasville’s match was $98,750. The ground breaking for Plaza East was on Oct. 10, 2011. The purpose of the project was to continue the City’s beautification efforts by cleaning up our alleyways, providing a pedestrian friendly environment throughout our downtown and provide connectivity to and from our local businesses by use of the alleyways.

The City has announced the ribbon cutting for the newly renovated Plaza East
will be on Friday, Dec. 7, at 1:30 p.m. This project would not have been possible without the diligent work of city staff, the ccnstruction company, Johnson Landscaping, and project managers, Bron Cleveland and Associates.
