New Farmer's Market Starts Today

These are the five things you need to know today, Sept. 1.

  1. The Mentor Kick-off Breakfast will be held today at 8 a.m. at the , 4841 Highway 5 next to Bill Arp Park. Admission is free. Becoming a mentor is one of the best investments you can make for their future. Just imagine how you'll feel when graduation day arrives.   2. Main Street will be hosting a Farmer’s Market on Thursdays, starting today, from 3 to 7 p.m. on in downtown Douglasville.  The market will feature fresh produce, organic meat, goat cheese, handcrafted items, baked goods, specialty items, and live music.  All local growers, artisans, and crafts people are welcome to participate.   3. Georgia Association of Woodturners Exhibit Opening will be held at the today at 6 p.m., 8652 Campbellton Street. Admission is free. The exhibit will be on view through Sept. 30. For more information, contact the CAC at 770-949-2787, or www.artsdouglas.org.
  4. Douglasville in the zone. Douglasville just received its long awaited for Opportunity Zone status. If you are interested in finding out how this designation could positively affect your business, join us for lunch on Sept. 9 in the  at 11:30 a.m. for a special "Meals and Deals on Main Street" presentation.   5. No More Social Security Administration at courthouse. The Social Security Administration is no longer maintaining office hours at Douglas County Courthouse due to federal budget cutbacks. The nearest SSA offices are in Marietta and Carrollton.
