New 'CarePlace' for Uninsured Is Open

The new CarePlace opened on Aug. 18 and partners with health organizations to offer health care for the uninsured.

The new CarePlace is open and ready to serve Douglas County residents who are uninsured and 18 or older. The facility does not offer dental help.

The CarePlace facility is located at 1707 N. Blair's Bridge Road, behind IHOP and Hardee's, off of Thornton Road. The facility is open for patients who qualify for public health care.

The CarePlace partners with WellStar and Kaiser Permanente as well as volunteer health professionals and is strictly for Douglas County residents.

"We're thrilled by the outpouring of support from the community," Frank Smith said, executive director. "We're excited that we are able to be here to serve the thousands of uninsured residents of Douglas County.

"I also want to thank Alex Platel for selecting the CarePlace for his Eagle Scout Project and proving more than 1,000 hours of free, donated labor. It's through his efforts that the CarePlace is a reality."
