The Discovery Channel’s “Moonshiners” television show star Tim Smith will be stopping today at the Douglas County Fire/EMS Headquarters from 4 to 6 p.m. to raise funds for the West, Texas, Volunteer Fire Department that was destroyed in last week’s fertilizer plant blast. In private life, Smith is the Fire Chief of the Climax, VA., Fire and Rescue Department, a small volunteer fire department similar to that of West, Texas.

Dubbed “Operation West Texas”, Smith is traveling from Virginia to Texas, stopping along the way to accept donations, 100 percent of which will go to the West, Texas, Fire and EMS Fallen Hero Fund of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation. The Douglas County Fire/EMS staff will accept donations in fire boots at the Fire Department Headquarters, located at 6856 Broad Street/Bankhead Highway in Douglasville (lower parking lot with access from Church Street, parking available across Church Street in the old Douglas County Jail parking lot).

Cash and checks are appreciated. Checks should be made payable to the NFFF c/o West, Texas, Fire and EMS Fallen Hero Fund. Donations by credit card may be made at www.regonline.com/westtx. All donated funds will be used to
assist the firefighters and coworkers to rebuild their lives, and support the programs and services they will need.
