The Discovery Channel’s “Moonshiners” television show star Tim Smith stopped by at the Douglas County Fire/EMS Headquarters Monday to raise funds for the West, Texas, Volunteer Fire Department that was destroyed in last week’s fertilizer plant blast. In private life, Smith is the Fire Chief of the Climax, VA., Fire and Rescue Department, a small volunteer fire department similar to that of West, Texas.

In the attached video, Smith explains why he's traveling from Virginia to Texas and accepting donations in what he's dubbed "Operation West Texas." Also, Douglas County Puckett EMS provides Smith with a $200 donation while he meets and greets local fire and EMS personnel and fans.

One hundred percent of donations will go to the West, Texas, Fire and EMS Fallen Hero Fund of the National Fallen Firefighters Foundation.
