Local TV Stars on Talent Show Tonight

These are the five things you need to know today, July 26.

  1. Tonight is the night. Two of Douglasville's very own residents will be performing on America's Got Talent Tuesday, the Captain & Maybelle. The Captain has had a love for sideshow and circus entertainment since his youth. After graduating high school, he set out from his hometown of Douglasville and explored the country. He's fulfilling his childhood dream of being a circus performer and using his skills as a body piercer in his act. While most wives would balk at the thought, Maybelle not only gave her blessing but also jumped in feet first alongside the Captain and became part of his act. The Captain and his wife Maybelle currently reside in Georgia with their two daughters, Payton and Ava, and their basset hound, Hoss. Check them out on NBC’s America's Got Talent at 9 p.m.
  2. Work is progressing on the Duralee Lane Extension Project. When completed, it will connect Fairburn Road to the Douglas County Courthouse campus, providing a new and more convenient access for citizens from the eastern part of the County. The $1.5 million project is being constructed by Blount Construction Company, Inc., and is anticipated to be completed in April 2012.  The project begins at the Fairburn Road/Duralee Lane intersection and goes west for 0.6 miles to Dorris Road, coming out immediately adjacent to the County’s Multimodal Transportation Center. The project is being paid with funds from the Georgia Regional Transportation Authority, and managed by the Douglas County Department of Transportation.
  3. Donate a Pint of Blood and Receive a Pint of Savings on Thursday, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m., at . This is a community blood drive for the American Red Cross. The first 60 donors receive a pint of "savings" in return for their pint of "life," coupons from local businesses in appreciation of your blood donation. Call 1-800-RED CROSS to schedule an appointment or just walk in.
  4. A Booster Seat Check because of a New State Law will be held Friday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Douglas Health Department, 6770 Selman Drive. These are free booster seat checks with no appointment necessary on a first-come, first- served basis.   5. The Douglasville Summer Sampler will be held Friday and Saturday. On Friday, the will host the tasting from 6 to 9 p.m. On Saturday, the will host the sample wine tasting, featuring products from Georgia vineyards. The cost is $15 per person each day.
