Local Artist Janet Deal Featured at Dog River Library

The exhibit is open through the end of the month.

Submitted by Douglas County Communications

Janet Deal is the featured artist for the month of April at the Dog River Library, and her exhibition of original art is now on display in the Library’s foyer and Community Room.  The exhibit is open to the Public with free admission at any time the Dog River Library is open.

Ms. Deal began painting after she retired from working 30 years in the field of developmental disabilities.  After retirement, friends encouraged her to try new experiences and expand her comfort zone, so she decided to take a pastel painting class and an artist was born.

She has now taken multiple art classes, including watercolor and acrylic, but comes back to pastels as her first love.  Over the past three years, she has painted almost 200 paintings, and 25 of them in all mediums are on display in the Library.  Other showings have been at the Red Cockerill Gallery, the Douglas County Courthouse Gallery, and the Cultural Arts Center.

In addition to her art, Ms. Deal is involved with the Friends of the Sweetwater Creek State Park, the Douglas County Master Gardeners, the Cultural Arts Council, the Fine Arts Academy of Douglasville 1st United Methodist Church, and is a co-founder of the Douglas County Chamber Singers.
