Get Out: Your Weekend Planner

The air is crisp, the leaves are falling, and pumpkins abound. Find out what's going on this weekend in Douglasville.

1. Halloween is Monday--do you have your pumpkin carved yet? If not, head over to the pumpkin patch at Shepherd of the Hills United Methodist Church to pick just the right one between noon and 6 p.m. today through Monday. Located at 4283 Chapel Hill Road in Douglasville, the church will sell pumpkins on consignment. The pumpkins were purchased from a Native American Reservation in New Mexico to benefit the church's youth group. More than 2,400 pumpkins were purchased to start the patch. The group's goal is to raise $8,000.

2. "Not So Scary Fairy Tales" is playing today and Friday at 6:30 p.m. at the at the University of West Georgia, 1601 Maple Street, Carrollton. On Saturday, Oct. 29, tours begin at 4:30 p.m. Tours are sold in blocks by the half hour with limited capacity. Great works of children's literature come to life: a magical kingdom, the Snow Queen, a fiery dragon, a wolf, and Scheherazade's Arabian Nights. Tickets are $5 for adults and $3 for children. Box office hours are Monday- Friday, 10 a.m.-6 p.m. For more information, to purchase tickets or if special assistance is needed, contact the box office at 678-839-4722 or visit www.townsendcenter.org. Each evening features a special activity at 7:30 p.m. in the lobby with prizes for the winners and a costume contest on Saturday at 6 p.m.  Other activities are available in the lobby. 

3."Raise the Praise" is Friday at 9 p.m. and features open mic night at 8019 Duralee Lane in Douglasville. Admission is $10. T.A. Productions will partner with the Atlanta Union Mission for a Thanksgiving Food drive, and attendees are encouraged to bring canned goods for a chance to win prizes.

4. You can always vote. Early voting by absentee ballots is now being held at the Voter Registrar’s Office, first floor, , 8700 Hospital Drive, continuing through Friday Nov. 4, between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. each day, and by mail, for the municipal general election. The General Election for the City of Douglasville will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 8. The hours for voting are 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. The offices to be elected are Mayor, Councilmember Ward 4, Councilmember Ward 5 Post 1, and Councilmember Ward 5 Post 2.
