Fun Things to Do with the Kids

Go to a birthday party for Elmo and a race car-making workshop this week.

Where: Douglasville Police Department and Municipal Court Building (Fairburn Road one mile east of Interstate 20)

 When: Saturday,  from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Sunday, from 2 to 6 p.m.

Why Go: A civics lesson is always a good thing and this is a unique opportunity to go “behind the scenes” of Douglasville's newest municipal building.

– FAMILY FUN CENTER

Where: 2171 Mack Road 

When: Tuesday thru Friday, 4 to 8:30 p.m.; Saturday 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. and Sunday 1:30 to 6 p.m. (Family Fun Center may close during inclement weather.)

Why go:  There’s so many activities that the entire family can find something fun to do. 

Price: Mini-golf - Cost is $2 for one course or $3 for both. (Courses are lit at night and there are clubs for all heights and ages), Batting cages 25 cents per pitch, $10 for one half hour or $20 for an hour; Skate park is free; Bocce court is also free.

BUILD AND GROW CLINICS

Where: Lowe’s

When: Saturday, starting at 10 a.m.

Why Go:  Kids and parents alike enjoy these fun building projects.  And this week’s craft is a race car!

Price: Free

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ELMO! at

Where:  Borders, Arbor Place Mall 

When: Saturday, at 2 p.m.

Why go: Your kids will love celebrate Elmo's third birthday with music, stories, crafts and more! Geared towards ages three to six. (Please note that this is not a costume character event.)

Price: Free

Where: 5000 Georgia Highway 92 North/166 East

 When: Mon. through Fri. 8 a.m. to 8:30 p.m.; Sat. 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.;  Sun. 1 to 5:30 p.m. (The center is closed the last Sunday of every month.)

Why go: Jumping in the pool is the best way to cure the winter blues! 

Price: Children under two are free; Children ages 3 to 18 are $2; and adults are $3.
