Food Fest, Nature Hike, Bingo Featured this Weekend

  • Why go: As the name would suggest, this annual festival is chock full of terrific food for all.  Also enjoy an outdoor arts exhibition, live entertainment, crafts, and a fun Kids Korner.

Yard Sale at

  • When: Saturday, May 14; 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Where: , one mile south of the Dog River
  • Why go: Come find a treasure...or get rid of your "trash."  MAny great items available for sale.  All proceeds benefit the Church's outreach ministries.  Space rentals still available.
  • Price: Free

  • Why go: Take your school-aged kids to this Christian-based play about how roommates learn to get along and the important of addressing challenges with Christian values.

Bingo!

  • When: Saturday, May 14 (Doors open at 4 p.m., food available at 6:30. Bingo from 7:30 p.m. to approximately 10 p.m.)
  • Where: Frank P. Dorris American Legion Post 145, 6449 Bankhead Hwy
  • Why go:  Yelling “Bingo!” can be a thrill.  Doors open at 4 p.m. so you can scope out the best table before the fun starts. Burgers and hot dogs and more are available for purchase.  (I hear the peach cobbler is outstanding.)  Non-alcoholic beverages, wine coolers and beer also for sale.

Spring Splendor/East Side Hike

  • When: Sunday, May 15; 1 p.m. to 4 p.m.
  • Why go: This is your chance to visit beautiful and seldom-visited areas of the park's eastern side, including the bridge-inaccessible Yellow Trail.  Warning: This hike is not for the faint-at-heart.  It’s 3.5 miles and is rated strenuous.  
  • Price: $6/person; $5/parking. (Annual state park passes are $50. Free passes are available at  and can be checked out for up to one week at a time.)
