Enjoy Chili Cookoff, Pancake Breakfast

These are the five things you need to know today, Sept. 30.

  1. The annual Chili Cookoff will be held on Oct. 22, from 6 to 9 p.m. in historic downtown Douglasville's O'Neal Plaza. Cooker free increases to $100 after Oct. 3. There will be tasty chili, local celebrities, a children's costume contest, as well as prizes and awards. For more information, contact www.artsdouglas.org or 770-949-2787.
  2. The Douglas County Democratic Party is hosting a Pancake Breakfast & Book Sale from 9 to 11 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 8 at , 5400 Stewart Mill Rd. The menu will include: pancakes, waffles, bacon (turkey & pork), sausage, coffee and juice. Tickets are $5 each and may be purchased in advance by contacting 770-489-9022 or dcdems.org or you may purchase tickets at the door on the morning of the breakfast.
  3. Cub and Boy Scout Popcorn will be for sale today, from 6 to 8:30 p.m. Pack 950 will be in front of (near Walmart) selling popcorn. The Pack will also be out Saturday, selling popcorn at the Fall Festival at Lithia Springs United Methodist Church, 3711 Temple Street, Lithia Springs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The event is free and various groups, including Cub Scouts, Youth Group and Girl Scouts, will have booths with items for sale.Β 
  4. Pumpkin Patch and storytime at Midway United Methodist Church. The Pumpkin Patch opens on Saturday and storytime is every Thursday at 10 a.m. and every Saturday at 6 p.m. The Saturday night storytimes include roasting marshmallows. It's a great community event. There is no charge to come out and visit play on the interactive center piece and storytime is also free. There is an area set up for pictures. All proceeds from the patch go to the After School Program at Midway UMC. The address is 1930 Midway Rd. For more information, contact Teresa C.   5. Fall Festival at Holly Springs Elementary will be held today, from
    5:30 to 8:30p.m. The cost is $10 for wristbands. There will be games, inflatables, rock wall, batmobile, music performances, cake walk and more. For more information call 770-651-4000.
