Enjoy a Concert at the Courthouse Today or This Week

The Douglas County Board of Commissioners is pleased to announce that a series of concerts by choruses from Douglas County schools will be presented on the Grand Staircase of the Courthouse Atrium through May 17 in recognition of "Music in Our Schools

The Douglas County Board of Commissioners is pleased to announce that a series of concerts by choruses from Douglas County schools will be presented on the Grand Staircase of the Courthouse Atrium through May 17 in recognition of “Music in Our Schools” Month.

Board of Commissioners Chairman Tom Worthan stated that “our education system should be well rounded, and expose and teach our children many facets of life, including the arts, so that they will be better equipped to be an active and productive adult member of society.  The Douglas County schools strive to provide a balanced curriculum for our youth, and we are pleased to be able to provide an opportunity for these talented youth to perform.”

The lunchtime concerts will be held in the Courthouse Atrium, and the public is invited to take their lunch hour and attend. Seating will be available. The music and voices will soar through the four floors of the Atrium, 165 feet from the performance level to the cupola. The schedule of concert appearances is as follows:

12:15 p.m.        Arbor Station Elementary School Chorus

  • Wednesday, May 15

12:15 p.m.        Chestnut Log Middle School Chorus
12:45 p.m.        Brighten Academy Chorus

  • Thursday, May 16

12:15 p.m.        Fairplay Middle School Chorus
12:45 p.m.        Mason Creek Middle School Chorus

All performances will be broadcast live on dctv23, the Douglas County government access channel, and taped for re-broadcast on the weekends following the concerts. The re-plays will air through the month of April.

The Board of Commissioners is pleased to be able to provide this forum to highlight this important aspect of our children’s education.
