Groundbreaking, Parking Lot Closed

These are the five things you need to know today, Sept. 22.

  1. The Groundbreaking Ceremony for new will be held today, at 6695 Church Street, at 10 a.m. Speakers wii include: Mayor Mickey Thompson; Bill Osborne, city manager and Jeff Noles, director of Development Services for the City of Douglasville.
  2. Municipal Parking Lot Closed. After the ground breaking for the new Downtown Douglasville Conference Center, the municipal parking lot will be closed for the construction of the Conference Center and the multi-level parking deck. Attached is the map of the suggested downtown parking areas during this construction. All public parking areas will be clearly marked with a large, blue “P” sign. Barring a lot of winter weather delays, the parking deck is expected to be finished and open for parking by April, the Conference Center should be ready by October, 2012. 
  3. Responsible Dog Owner's Day at will be held Saturday, from 1 to 4 p.m. The will have a K-9 demonstration.
  4. Arbor Station and Chapel Hills Homeowners Associations are   sponsoring a "Meet the Candidates" forum on Oct. 14, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Arbor Station Community Center, 9650 Parkway Circle. All of the candidates will be attending the event both for the mayor's and council seats. Everyone is welcome to attend.
  5. Steve Beecham, author of "Bass-Ackwards Business" will be the speaker for the Douglas County Chapter American Business Women's Association meeting on Sept. 27 at 6:30 p.m. at Red Lobster. The ABWA website is www.abwa-dc.com/calendar.
