The Douglasville City Council proclaimed April 2 as World Autism Awareness Day and will light up the new public safety building and downtown fountain.

The Douglasville City Council proclaimed April 2 as World Autism Awareness Day in the city of Douglasville at Monday night's city council meeting. Chris Womack, Douglasville Police Chief agreed that the new Public Safety and Municipal Court Building will be lit up with blue lights on April 1 and 2 to draw attention to the crisis of Autism.

The fountain in the center of Historic Downtown Douglasville will also be lit up blue. All residents of Douglasville are encouraged to participate by lighting up their own home or business to commemorate the fourth annual United Nations World Autism Awareness Day and Autism Awareness Month.

This is a disorder that affects 1 in every 110 children and 1 in 70 boys around the world, according to Autism Speaks.
