The Douglas County Courthouse will host a flu shot clinic for the public on Tuesday, Nov. 6, from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the Courthouse Atrium. Flu shots will be available to any person age nine and older, and will be administered by the Douglas Public Health Department. The cost of the flu shot is $20, payable in cash. Medicare recipients may get their flu shots free of charge (please present Medicare card), and the Health Department accepts State Health Benefit Plan (SHBP CIGNA).

The flu vaccine is in ample supply this year, but flu cases have already been reported in 46 states, including Georgia. The Centers for Disease Control recommend that everyone over the age of six months get a flu shot, but particularly people who have asthma, diabetes, and chronic lung disease, are pregnant, and are over 65 years old. It takes about two weeks after vaccination for antibodies to develop in the body and provide protection against the flu, and since cold weather is now upon us, vaccine needs to be gotten now.

Residents may pre-register for their flu shot by calling 770-920-7593 or emailing webmaster@co.douglas.ga.us. Persons with SHBP CIGNA should pre-register so that insurance coverage can be verified.
