Chill Out to Live Jazz

This weekend's events include a plant sale, a wilderness survival class, a yard sale to benefit a local high school and free music concerts featuring bluegrass and jazz.

When: Saturday, May 7; 8 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Where: Greenhouse adjacent to the Woodie Fite Center, 8750 Dorris Road (next to the Courthouse)

Why go: This popular annual plant sale attracts folks near and far. Foliage for sale includes many unusual and interesting varieties such as sundrops, angel trumpets, rudbeckia, fennel, pachysandra, and more, plus vegetables, houseplants and annuals. Proceeds benefit the projects of the Douglas County Master Gardeners.

Price: Free to attend, prices vary on plants

Lithia Springs Marching Lions Spring Fair and Yard Sale

When: Saturday, May 7; 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Where: 2520 East County Line Road

Why go: Whether you’re a seller or a buyer (booths still available!) this is a fun sale for all.  Proceeds will help to purchase new band uniforms.

Price: Free, items priced accordingly

Spring Concerts on the Plaza

When: Saturday, May 7; 7 p.m.

Why go: Bring a dinner picnic and enjoy an evening on the plaza with lively contemporary bluegrass music from Peachtree Station

Wilderness Survival Class

When: Saturday, May 7; 10 a.m. to 3 a.m.

Where: Sweetwater Creek State Park - 1750 Mount Vernon Rd

Why go: This “good-for-all ages” class covers basic and some advanced survival techniques. Learn to build a fire, make an emergency shelter, navigation, and how to pack a daypack and first aid kit for survival.

Price: $10./person; $5 parking per car.

Jazz on the Green – Tributary Concert Series

When: Sunday, May 8; 4 p.m. (live music starts at 6 p.m.)

Where: Founder’s Park, The Village subdivision of Tributary at New Manchester (On Riverside Parkway, about one mile from Fairburn Rd.)

Why go: End the week on a high note!  Seasoned jazz artist Brien Andrews takes the stage for a free concert in a beautiful setting.
