Chapel Hill student heads to Air Force Academy

Opportunities to meet an owl, Bobby Bowden and Chairman Tom Worthan, all coming up in the next week. These are the five things necessary to know before you leave the house today, Feb. 18.

  1. Chapel Hill student heads to Air Force Academy. Rebecca "Becky" Jones, was honored by Congressman David Scott on Feb. 5, at the Thirteenth Congressional District Military Academy Nomination Ceremony with an Air Force Academy scholarship, valued at $400,000. A member of the since the second grade, she learned of the opportunity at one of Club's College and Career Fairs.
  2. Have dinner with Bobby Bowden on March 4 at . An auction and hors d'oeuvres will be at 5:30 p.m. and the dinner and presentation will be at 7:15 p.m. Individual ticket prices start at $85. Table and higher value tickets are available. After Saturday, prices start at $100. Print ticket order form here. Autographed Sports Memorabilia, trips and other packages will be available for lower than retail prices. Donations and a portion of your ticket purchases are tax deductible.
  3. Meet an Owl at this Douglasville resident's  new book signing on March 5. Lynn Coulter will be at the Lifeway Christian store at The Landing, near Arbor Place Mall, from 2 to 4 p.m.  (The Landing is the shopping area at the corner of Douglas Blvd. and Chapel Hill Road.) Nigel, an owl from HawkTalk is featured in the book and will be there too.  HawkTalk is a nonprofit rescue and rehabilitation organization for wild birds. 
  4. Chat with the Chairman will be held at Fire Station No. 2 in Winston  from 6 to 7 p.m. The fire station is located at Conners Road adjacent to the Winston Post Office. Admission is free. There is no program, no sound system, just one-on-one conversations with Douglas County Commission Chairman Tom Worthan.
